Eames Meets Davidson's New Technology:

Davidson’s advanced 3D-technology makes it possible to deep-draw 3D-veneers similar to the deformation of metal sheets. The process begins with cutting wood veneer into small strips and then processing them in a way that makes the wood flexible enough to mold into complex curves without splitting or popping.

3D-veneer moldings and components coated with 3D-veneer have a closed surface and are extremely stable due to their three-dimensionality. This excellent stability allows to choose minimum wall thicknesses and hence to build exceptionally light-weight components.
